Screencasts are digital recordings of your computer screen that allow you to demonstrate a certain sequence of actions on your desktop, or create a video tutorial. There are a lot of good free applications available for capturing screencasts, but it is hard to find good software that let you create screencasts of your desktop.
Most of the free tools apply a watermark over the video, and the ones that don’t have some video related issue, such as the quality being low. However, we keep covering new free screencast making applications that have a lot of potential to become very useful after some improvement. One such application that we found today is Screen Capturer. It is a free application for making screencasts of your desktop screen that lets you set a custom frame rate, choose to include the cursor and follow the mouse cursor. The application has a very simple interface, and doesn’t confuse you with a lot of options. At the top, there are Show Cursor on Video and Follow the Cursor buttons, New Video, Start Recording and Stop Recording buttons appear in the middle, while options to toggle Preview Captured Area and set custom frame rate are available at the bottom.
To start recording a screencast, first click the New Video button and choose a name and location for the file to be saved. Then, click Preview Capture area and resize it according to your requirement. You can also change the Frame rate and set it according to your requirement from a range of 1 to 99 frames per second. When everything is set, click Start Recording to record the screen. When your work is finished, simply choose the Stop Recording button. The screencast will be automatically saved, and a window will pop up, asking you whether you want to play the recorded video or not.
Even though Screen Capturer lets you adjust the frame rate, the saved video quality is not that good. Other than that, the developer should include options to select a default save folder and automatically name the recorded files. The application works on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.
